Reissue of Symantec (including RapidSSL) Certificates

Difficulty: Beginner

Overview

All certificates issued under the old Symantec Certificate Authority (which includes sub-brands such as RapidSSL) are required to be re-issued under a new system. This is due to the fact that the old systems aren't compliant with the strict auditing rules set by Google and Mozilla. Google have indicated that in Chrome 66 (due in April 2018), the browser will no longer trust the certificate and therefore display an error.

All affected Conetix customers will have the SSL certificate regenerated completely free of charge.

Where the certificate is used solely for your hosting with Conetix, we will also complete the installation of the new certificate for you. If the certificate has been issued for use externally, we will be re-generating the certificates to send through over the next few weeks. Those with certificates issued prior to June 2016 will be completed as a priority to ensure sufficient time to install.

How do I know if I'm affected?

Conetix maintains a list of all certificates issued and will be processing this list in priority order. If a new certificate is required, you'll receive an email with further instructions.

Is there a security risk?

There are no current issues with the certificates. The changes are to ensure that going forward, there's public disclosure (and therefore the ability to audit) all certificates generated by all Certificate Authorities.

Do I need to pay?

No. The re-issue of the certificate is completely free and will retain the existing expiry date.
